Typically, pressure sores are formed when capillary blood flow is impeded which occurs when an individual sits on a hard surface. In addition, the same exposure to pressure sores also exists in the clavicle or back area. In a standard wheelchair scenario, a cushion is used without a foam back support. Also, many cushions aren’t provided with tie straps on the cushion, therefore allowing the cushion and or patient to slide off the wheelchair.
This product was designed to provide pressure relief in both the back and seat and is
available in two setups, namely with the gel cushions the other setup with a foam back without the cushions, but will accept an existing wheelchair cushion sized 18”x16”x4” or smaller or 16”x16”x4 or smaller. In the event that a wheelchair cushion is already available at the facility, models can be purchased with only the foam back support and seat pocket which can accept any wheelchair cushion shown above.
